Go Green to Save Wastes

The finalist team from Alliance Boys wants to make charcoal from grass and other biomaterials for use in household cooking. Their product is named GreenChar.

The primary fuel used in household cooking in Kenya and elsewhere is wood and petrol products. Both aren’t sustainable and promote deforestation as well as being expensive.

To address this the finalist team from Alliance Boys has produced charcoal from organic waste materials from farming. Not only is the charcoal cheaper, and more sustainable – but also has a more complete combustion
causing less air pollution.
